Eighth Annual Marcum Workplace Challenge Revving Up
Long Island’s Largest Corporate Run-Walk for Charity and Office Picnic
The 8th Annual Marcum Workplace Challenge is revving up to deliver another record-breaking run-walk for charity at Jones Beach State Park on July 30. The annual fundraiser attracts 10,000 Long Islanders including employees of more than 200 Long Island companies, government offices and non-profit organizations, and their families and friends. The starting horn for this year’s 3.5-mile challenge will sound at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 30, in Parking Field 5.
Title sponsor Marcum, one of the largest independent public accounting and advisory services firms in the U.S. and the largest firm on Long Island, hosts the event as a way to connect Long Island businesses with the community and with each other, while raising funds for charity. In 2012, the Marcum Workplace Challenge raised $80,000 for the Long Island Children’s Museum, Long Island Cares – The Harry Chapin Food Bank, and Children’s Medical Fund of New York. These will again be the beneficiary organizations this year.
The Marcum Workplace Challenge is also celebrated as the region’s largest office picnic. Many participating companies and organizations utilize the occasion for their own summer socials, pitching tents, catering food and lingering late into the evening to enjoy the festivities.
“The Marcum Workplace Challenge is a highlight of the year because it brings the business community out in a way that doesn’t happen with any other event. Our theme this year is Setting the Pace. It is a great way to build camaraderie, support the Long Island community, and just have some old fashioned fun,” said Carolyn Mazzenga, Partner-in-Charge of Marcum’s Melville office.
The Marcum Workplace Challenge has raised over $225,000 for local charities since its inception in 2005. The event is managed by the Greater Long Island Running Club under the direction of Event Director Mindy Davidson.
