As he builds Marcum into a national player, Jeff Weiner also has America’s favorite killer to worry about.

Marcum chief Jeff Weiner has plenty of shop to talk these days.

On the accounting and business-service side of things, Weiner has grown Marcum into the nation’s 15th-largest firm – No. 5 in New York – with audit work at more than 100 publicly traded companies.

Billings topped $274 million last year and the firm’s staffing and technology subsidiaries are booming. Last week, the practice added 75 staffers at its Manhattan office, pushing the total over 1,000 for the first time.

Merger talks with a Chicago firm are in the works, and Weiner also has an eye on Washington, Atlanta and Houston. Even Denver.

And there’s the Jason Bourne business, which Weiner runs as executor of the estate of author Robert Ludlum, a longtime client and friend.

There’s plenty going on there, too. Although Ludlum wrote only three Bourne books before his death in 2001, Weiner has kept the character very much alive. Veteran thriller writer Eric Van Lustbader has cranked out seven best-selling Bourne sequels – and counting – and there have been three blockbuster films starring Matt Damon, plus a fourth with “Hurt Locker” star Jeremy Renner.

Not bad for an assassin with memory problems.

“I consider it my night job,” said Weiner, who runs the Ludlum state from a Los Angeles office. “I think the Bourne character is very compelling.”
