Marcum LLP Names Anirban Basu Chief Construction Economist

New York City, NY – The construction industry’s leading economist has joined Marcum LLP as the national accounting and advisory firm’s Chief Construction Economist, a newly created position. Effective immediately, Anirban Basu, Chairman & CEO of Sage Policy Group, Inc., will partner with Marcum Construction Industry Group Leader Joseph Natarelli to produce a quarterly index measuring and tracking the commercial construction industry’s economic health. The Marcum Commercial Construction Industry Index will launch in November 2012.

“The addition of Anirban Basu to our construction practice further expands Marcum’s national footprint in the industry and brings an important new level of expertise and insight to better serve Marcum’s construction clients,” Mr. Natarelli said. “Anirban is one of the industry’s most respected leaders. We are particularly excited to be partnering with him on the development of the Marcum Commercial Construction Index, which will provide another strategic tool our clients can use to help guide their business decisions.”

“I am delighted to serve as Marcum’s chief construction economist in support of their rapidly expanding national practice. We hope to provide key insights to industry decision-makers, who have to continuously contend with rapidly changing market conditions, technologies and regulations,” Mr. Basu said.

The Marcum Commercial Construction Index will provide ongoing updates regarding the performance of the nation’s commercial construction industry, including construction spending, materials prices and employment.  The index will also provide narrative focused upon key drivers of commercial construction spending, including broader economic forces and the impacts of public policy.
