Six Winners Announced at 2012 Marcum Tech Top 40 Event

iSend LLC Named Connecticut’s Fastest Growing Technology Company

Hartford, CT – Six winners representing key areas of technology were announced as the fastest growing technology companies in Connecticut at the 2012 Marcum Tech Top 40 awards ceremony on September 27 at the Oakdale Theater in Wallingford. Marcum LLP, one of the nation’s leading accounting and advisory firms, and The Connecticut Technology Council recognized the 40 fastest growing technology companies in Connecticut based on revenue growth over the past four years.

The overall winner of this year’s Marcum Tech Top 40 is Middlebury-based iSend LLC in the NewMedia/Internet/Telecom category. The company achieved revenue growth of 58,906 percent over the past four years. iSend has become a leading international electronic payment service for people who support family members in various countries, offering online prepaid mobile top-up, international bill payment, and gift card procurement services in retail outlets in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

The five other category winners were:

  • Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Cheshire (Life Sciences)
  • eVariant, Inc., Simsbury (Software category)

“Category winners of the Marcum Tech Top 40 represent growth, innovation and perseverance – qualities that we believe are essential to fostering economic growth in Connecticut,” said, Anthony P. Scillia, Partner-in-Charge of the New England Practice of Marcum LLP.  Marcum, which has Connecticut offices in Hartford and New Haven, has been title sponsor of the Tech Top 40 since 2007.

RSL Fiber Systems, LLC, won the Advanced Manufacturing category for the third consecutive year. The company builds advanced fiber optic-based solutions for the commercial and military lighting sectors.

FuelCell Energy, LLC, which won in the Energy/Environmental Technologies category, put Connecticut on the fuel cell map with its line of fuel cells for commercial, municipal and utility customers.

Software category winner, eVariant, Inc., offers a two-way communication platform for patients, providers and the organizations that support them on HealthConnect, a CRM / PRM solution that integrates healthcare business data across a broad range of systems.

Datto Inc., winner of the IT Services category, provides hardware-based on- and off-site back-up and disaster recovery solutions.

The Life Sciences category winner, Alexion Pharmaceuticals, won as overall winner in 2009 and 2010. The company will be moving its headquarters to New Haven and into a new building in 2015.

Companies considered for the Marcum Tech Top 40 are required to have at least $50,000 in revenue in the first year and $3 Million in revenue in the fourth year.

The 2012 list is made up primarily of privately held companies, but does include 10 public companies. Geographically, both Hartford and Fairfield Counties have 12 Tech Top 40 companies while New Haven County is home to nine.
