Round and Round

As I sat down to write this week’s column I suddenly realized that October has just one day left. The whole month has been a blur to me. I've been on a virtual merry go round for weeks.

It started out with a six-day trip to London on the 3rd to be on set for some of the filming of the new "Bourne" film. I flew home on the 8th, landed at JFK, headed into NYC to pick up my family, and it was off to Long Island for the long Columbus Day weekend, as Lily, Kate and Max were off from school on Friday and Monday. The rest of that week was pretty calm, with four days in a row spent in our Long Island office prepping for our upcoming partner retreat.

October 18th I was off to Miami for three meeting days with our international accounting association (LEA Global: the Leading Edge Alliance), immediately followed by three days in Palm Beach for the Marcum partner retreat. Got back home on the 23rd.

This week started with a day trip to Washington, D.C., for a meet-and-greet with the PCAOB (Public Company Accounting Oversight Board). Tuesday and Wednesday were spent in Fort Lauderdale for the kick-off of our annual firm-wide town hall meeting; our "State of the Firm" is presented in all five of our operating regions coast-to-coast. Yesterday was back on Long Island, and today I'm on a day trip to Chicago to welcome the newest team members to Marcum, in our very soon-to-be-announced latest merger which will at long last bring Marcum to the Midwest.

I land in New York at about 6:30 PM tonight and head straight to Citi Field, hoping the Mets (although I'm a die-hard Yankees fan) can overcome the two-game deficit and rally to beat KC for the World Series Championship.

Tomorrow’s Halloween, so it’s Trick or Treat, New York style. And Sunday, I’ll be cheering Tracy, who will run the NYC Marathon for the first time, something she’s been training for for six months. I'll be subway-ing my way around the course to root her on at regular intervals, until she crosses the finish line in Central Park, some four hours after she starts. I can’t tell you how proud I am of her for doing this.

So there it is: Jeff’s month. I'm exhausted just writing about it.

Here’s to an easier November. Happy Halloween, everybody!
