Marcum’s LGBT & Non-Traditional Family Practice Group Featured in Sun-Sentinel.com Article "Accounting Firm Adds Gay and Non-Traditional Family Practice"

Excerpt:

Accounting firm Marcum LLP, which has offices in Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Miami, has formed a national practice group to address the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals as well as non-traditional families.

Is this a marketing move?

No, says Janis Cowhey, a partner with Marcum in New York, which now allows same-sex marriage.

Individuals and non-traditional families in Florida have a greater challenge when it comes to estate planning and other accounting-related issues. “Florida constitutionally bans same sex marriages and doesn’t recognize domestic partnerships,” she said.

Kim Lamplough, a partner in Marcum in Fort Lauderdale, said the firm’s regional offices already work with many clients who have non-traditional family issues.
