About Jeff

Jeffrey Houston is a partner in the Assurance Services group and serves as the Firm’s office managing partner in Houston. He has more than 35 years of experience in both the public and private accounting sectors.

In addition to his public accounting experience, Mr. Houston has a specialized background in the oil and gas, biotechnology/pharmaceutical, manufacturing and real estate industries, where he has held senior executive positions responsible for corporate expansion through capital funding, strategic alliances, and mergers and acquisitions. He has evaluated business development and acquisition proposals for new ventures and created plans for business refinancing and restructuring. He is adept in helping organizations identify new processes to reduce operating costs, such as implementing cost management processes, purchasing and contract administration processes, and financial and operational procedures.

Mr. Houston joined Marcum in 2018 as the result of a merger with his predecessor firm, GBH CPAs, PC, where he was a founding shareholder and CEO. His previous experience included serving as chief financial officer for a Nasdaq-listed oil and gas company; a NASDAQ-listed metals fabrication company; and privately held entities in the oil and gas exploration, oil refining, real estate, manufacturing, and telecom industries. He began his career at a “Big Four” accounting firm, serving numerous industries, including Fortune 500 publicly held companies, privately held entities, regulated and unregulated energy companies, development-stage enterprises, individually owned entrepreneurial enterprises, and natural gas marketing companies.
