About Michael

Michael Reilly is an Assurance Services partner in the Firm’s New York City office. Michael has more than 40 years of experience in public accounting and is a member of Marcum’s Capital Markets Group and Quality Review team. He assists clients with IPOs, debt offerings, registration statements, mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, annual financial statement audits, and inspections.

Prior to retiring from a “Big Four” firm in 2020, Michael served as a partner responsible for audit quality and innovation, which included managing PCAOB, peer review and internal inspections, and developing plans for improving the firm’s overall audit quality. Previously, Michael was the professional practice director for its Connecticut offices for 12 years and the deputy professional practice director for its New York office for two years, where he was the primary consultation resource for all technical account, reporting, risk management, and auditing issues. In addition, he was a director in an SEC services resource group for seven years, which assisted engagement teams and clients with all aspects of public company filings, including stock and debt offerings, M&A transactions, private placements, proxy statements, quarterly reporting, and annual financial statements audits. He also served as a representative to the International Practices Taskforce (IPTF) of the SEC Regulations Committee, an AICPA committee consisting of one member from each of the 10 largest public accounting firms, and the SEC’s Chief Accountant. The taskforce focused on emerging accounting issues arising around the world and suggested guidance to the SEC.

Outside of public accounting, Michael was the global U.S. GAAP accounting and reporting director for the largest Japanese financial services firm and taught accountingreporting director for the largest Japanese financial services firm and taught accounting and auditing to university seniors and graduate school students.
