Nassau County SPCA Newest Beneficiary of Annual Marcum Workplace Challenge

New York City, NY – The Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has been named a charity beneficiary of the 2015 Marcum Workplace Challenge. The annual run-walk fundraiser at Jones Beach State Park will take place July 28 this year. It is presented by Marcum LLP, a top national accounting and advisory services firm and the largest on Long Island.

The event has raised nearly $500,000 for Long Island charities since Marcum became title sponsor in 2006. The Nassau County SPCA is the first animal welfare organization to be designated a beneficiary.

“The Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals does a tremendous job in rescuing, rehabilitating and caring for animals that have been displaced or harmed. They are a wonderful addition to our event and we look forward to hearing some of the loudest cheers at the starting line coming from the NCSPCA team!” said Carolyn Mazzenga, Marcum’s Long Island Partner-in-Charge and host of the Marcum Workplace Challenge.

The Nassau County SPCA treats and finds permanent homes for animals that have been abandoned, abused or neglected. Other charity beneficiaries include Long Island Cares: The Harry Chapin Food Bank; the Long Island Children’s Museum; and the Children’s Medical Fund of New York.

The Marcum Workplace Challenge is Long Island’s largest corporate run-walk for charity as well as the region’s largest corporate picnic. The event is managed by the Greater Long Island Running Club. In 2014, over 9300 participants ran or walked for 215 corporate teams and nearly 12,000 Long Islanders attended in total. 2015 will be the event’s 10th anniversary year.
