Marcum LLP Nonprofit Leader Thomas Raffa Receives 2019 GOODAward from GOODProjects
New York City, NY – Thomas J. Raffa, national leader of Raffa-Marcum’s Nonprofit & Social Sector Group, will be honored today with a GOODAward at GOODGala 2019, for his commitment to helping develop a more equitable Washington D.C. in which low income families are lifted from poverty. The event at Mellon Auditorium is presented by GOODProjects, a community-based organization dedicated to eradicating poverty.
“All of our honorees, including Tom Raffa, Frank Luntz, Mayor Muriel Bowser, and Father Raymond Kemp, set a bar for other community and corporate leaders who achieve a high level of success, while championing diversity and inclusion, and ultimately strengthening the community-at-large,” said GOODProjects Executive Director Darius Baxter.
Mr. Raffa first met GOODProjects’ founders, Troye Bullock, Daniel Wright, and Mr. Baxter, at Georgetown University in 2016 during the early incubation stages of the nonprofit organization, when all were receiving awards for business excellence. Since then, the original idea for what started as “GOODGuys” has grown into a thriving social enterprise that has impacted hundreds of youth and families in Washington, D.C.
“These GOODGuys are on this journey for all the right reasons and bring so much heart to their mission and their work. They are passionate about making a difference in the community they came from, have overcome significant challenges and hardships themselves, and are now empowered to help others thrive. It is a privilege to be associated with them and a joy to see them succeed,” said Mr. Raffa, who volunteers as a senior advisor to the organization.
“The 2019 GOODAward is to recognize Tom’s years of dedication to this city and for setting the example for young women and men that there is talent being bred right here in Washington, D.C. With Tom’s continued leadership, there is no telling where the ceiling is for our city, and with Marcum LLP by our side, we can deliver opportunities daily to help at-risk youth and their families lead fulfilling lives, free from poverty and violence, with improvements to their health and wellness,” Mr. Baxter said.
