Same Time, Same Place

Same Time, Same Place

Three-and-a-half years ago, when I first started writing this blog, I thought it would be a great platform to give people inside and outside of Marcum a small window into what makes our Firm’s managing partner tick. Since we have so many clients and offices disbursed around the country, I don’t get to meet as many people in person as I would like, and my thinking was that a regular weekly column would be a way to connect with more people.

I have to say, it’s been a great ride. I have written approximately 140 posts since the column debuted on January 4, 2013. I have covered a whole host of subjects – sports (2/25/13), politics (11/7/14), terrorism (1/16/15), cybersecurity (2/20/15), wellness (1/15/16) and family (way too many to mention), and that’s just a small sampling. The world has been my oyster, and I have thoroughly enjoyed the exercise of prying it open for these weekly ruminations.

One of the best parts of this whole endeavor has been the email I receive from readers in response, whether it’s to agree with me, berate me, or add their two cents to my commentary. I know that when 10:05 Friday morning rolls round, my inbox is going to surge (although sometimes the mail continues to arrive through the weekend, especially if I’ve written about something controversial). I admit I get a real kick out of it.

As I’ve shared with you over the weeks and months, sometimes I get stuck with writer’s block. You think it’s easy coming up with ideas every Friday, especially at certain times of the year such as our firm’s busy season, which starts January 1 and doesn’t let up until April 15? Fun – yes. Rewarding – yes. Easy – no. So as much as I’ve enjoyed the privilege of bending your ear for the past three-plus years, I think a change up is in order.

Now is as good a time as any to announce that as my traditional summer writing hiatus approaches, I am going to be winding down this column. June 24 will be my final posting, not just for July and August, but for the foreseeable future. After all, it’s not just about me. There is a small team of people who help me get this column spit polished for posting every week (it’s 7:30am Friday morning and I’m still going back and forth with my editor Julie Gelfand trying to get this week’s version out), and while I think they have enjoyed the run as much as I have, I’m sure they will not mind being relieved of this particular duty.

April Fool’s (fooled you, didn’t I?)!!! Are you kidding? I’m not nearly ready to give up on this blog. In the course of what I do in an average jam-packed week, writing this column is something I really look forward to. Besides, I’m not letting you off the hook that easily. So long as you’re willing to read, I’m willing to write.

Have a great weekend everybody. See you next Friday – same time, same place.
