About David

David Knibbs is a practice leader in Marcum’s Digital Assets and Blockchain Practice. As the Assurance practice leader, he is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining the Firm’s assurance policies and procedures and compliance with governing bodies as it relates to clients who operate within the blockchain & digital assets space. In addition, he is a partner in the Firm’s Technical Review and Quality Control Group, providing guidance to Firm professionals on technical accounting and auditing matters and reviews SEC audit engagements as a quality reviewer.

David has an in-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reporting, and Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) auditing standards, including extensive experience in SOX 404 related auditing standards. His capabilities cover a variety of industries, including blockchain & digital assets, banking, insurance, asset management, and information technology. His specialty in technical areas includes evolving interpretations and applications of GAAP related to accounting for digital assets, revenue recognition, financial instruments, the allowance for loan losses, insurance reserves, business combinations, and impairment matters, among others. He also has experience with foreign private issuers and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

Prior to joining the Firm, he worked at PCAOB and one of the Big Four public accounting firms. He is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where he received degrees in accounting and finance.
