William Kuhlman is a partner in Marcum's Philadelphia office and a member of the Firm's Tax & Business Services division, as well as the Manufacturing, Retail & Distribution Practice group. He came to Marcum in 2015 via the Firm's merger with Smart Devine, a leading full-service accounting firm in Philadelphia, where he was managing director for the Research & Development (R&D) Tax Consulting Practice.
Mr. Kuhlman has spent the last 20 years consulting with middle-market U.S. corporations and was instrumental in the success of national, regional and boutique R&D tax consulting practices.
Prior to joining Smart Devine, he served for three years as the federal tax services director with a New York City accounting firm that was subsequently combined into Smart Devine. At the predecessor firm, he developed a specialty R&D tax credit incentives practice and was responsible for approximately $50 million in R&D tax credits for clients including multinational companies. Previously, Mr. Kuhlman held leadership roles at other national and regional R&D professional service firms.
Mr. Kuhlman has 25 years of progressive tax experience and more than 15 years of R&D tax credit specialization.
