Contractors should be on guard as they enter into new contractual arrangements. Given diminished backlog and fewer bidding opportunities for many contractors, there may be a temptation to take on the risk of price spikes for materials to enhance the probability of securing additional work. It is conceivable that such strategies will end up working out just fine but the risk of poor outcomes is presently elevated.
