About David

David Knibbs is Marcum’s Blockchain & Digital Assets Assurance Practice Leader, responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining the Firm’s assurance policies and procedures and compliance with governing bodies as it relates to clients who operate within the Blockchain & Digital Assets space. In addition, he is a partner in the Firm’s Technical Review and Quality Control Group, providing guidance to Firm professionals on technical accounting and auditing matters and reviews SEC audit engagements as a quality reviewer.

With nearly 20 years of experience in accounting, auditing, and regulatory oversight, he has an in-depth knowledge of US GAAP, SEC reporting, and PCAOB auditing standards, including extensive experience in SOX 404 related auditing standards. Mr. Knibbs’ capabilities cover a variety of industries, including blockchain & digital assets, banking, insurance, asset management, and information technology. His specialty in technical areas includes evolving interpretations and applications of GAAP related to accounting for digital assets, revenue recognition, financial instruments, the allowance for loan losses, insurance reserves, business combinations, and impairment matters, among others. He also has experience with foreign private issuers and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Knibbs worked at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and one of the “Big 4” public accounting firms. He is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where he received degrees in accounting and finance.
