The Supreme Court’s decision to decide whether the U.S. Constitution requires each state to recognize same-sex marriage sent a buzz through the Bay Area’s financial community on Friday.
The court’s next ruling could declare marriage to be a constitutional right for all gay and lesbian Americans and bring an end to a patchwork of state laws on the issue.
Others anticipate that if the Supreme Court decides states are entitled to ban same-sex marriage, it will re-energize opponents to push for such bans.
“It’s a much smaller quilt than last year,” said Nanette Lee Miller, a partner at Marcum in San Francisco, where she oversees the accounting firm’s practice focused on the LGBT community and nontraditional families.
