About Robert

Robert Schmidt is a Partner in Marcum’s Assurance Division and a member the Firm’s national engagement quality review (EQR) group. With nearly 40 years of experience in public accounting, Mr. Schmidt has a depth of experience providing and overseeing assurance services to public and private commercial businesses. He has worked with domestic and multinational clients in the financial services industry as well as distribution, manufacturing, consumer products, and more.

Prior to joining Marcum, Mr. Schmidt spent more than 35 years with a Big Four firm, 23 of which were as a partner. His clients included international commodities trading companies and dealers, among others. He was the co-leader of the firm’s Tri-State Japanese Services Group. Mr. Schmidt completed a three-year assignment in Tokyo as the senior U.S. representative, serving in an advisory role on a large global trading company and a major Japanese consumer products company; he served in the firm’s Japan Quality Group, including assistance on regulatory inspections and as an industry advisory and relationship partner on numerous U.S. and Japanese commodities trading clients.

Mr. Schmidt has devoted more than 20 years of his career in a quality assurance network, responsible for consultations on and technical reviews of financial statement accounting and internal control over financial reporting matters. In addition, to U.S. GAAP, GAAS and PCAOB Standards, he is proficient in IFRS and International Standards on Auditing.
